Go the Distance for Grace!!

2_Grace and Sean O BrienGrace Kenneally is a 9 year old girl from Galway who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, an aggressive children’s cancer, when she was five years old. Grace is currently undergoing chemotherapy for the third time in Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Grace has only a 4% chance of survival here in Ireland. The best chance that Grace has of survival is to get a treatment abroad that is not available in Ireland, or to take part in an innovative clinical trial. Time is running out for Grace, so we need to act quickly.

The Saving Grace Trust was formed in early July 2014. Grace nearly lost her battle earlier this year, after she had liver failure however she has since bounced back, and chemo has shrunk the tumour. We are fundraising to ensure that the funds are available when Grace is well enough to travel. It is also well known that child cancer sufferers will suffer a lifetime of side effects from their chemo, and for this we are also fundraising, to ensure that Grace always gets the best treatments possible.

Go the Distance for Grace with Kettlebelle.ie – Sponsor Us

The concept is simple. Taking into account that we are raising funds to help get Grace to America for treatment we want to “Go the Distance” for her. The distance from Galway to America is approx. 5,782 km. We have decided instead of travelling that distance we are going to each lift 5,782 kg (shoulder to overhead) in weight. 5_Grace_and_Katie_TaylorAs we are both passionate Crossfitters we are used to moving heavy weight but this will be a challenge for us as it will involve approx 250-300 lifts each to hit these numbers and go the distance if all goes well on the day we will not only go the distance to America we will also lift the distance back!  We want to do something that demonstrates strength and determination as Grace inspires others with hers. We are all about women lifting women and strong women on Kettlebelle.ie and Grace sounds like one of the strongest little women out there.
