This New Years if you are throwing a party, why not create some fantastic cocktails that are just that bit healthier?!? Most of these are Paleo diet compliant and all are very very tasty! If you eat clean why not try drink clean!
If you are out and about, choose cocktails with no sugar and spirits such as vodka and tequila. Sweeteners such as honey & agave(what tequila is made from) can be used in cocktails and are much better for you. I’ve had fantastic sugar free Paleo compliant options in Opium and House.
Good cocktail bars will substitute and work with you to create the perfect cocktails. Ask for no sugar or sugar syrup, check if they have agave instead or leave it out all together as some spirits are sweet enough or another option is a splash of fresh juice or muddled berries to sweeten!
Above all else enjoy yourself and celebrate 2014 while raising a glass to a fantastic year ahead!
LET’S DRINK LIKE A CAVEGIRL!
Simple but oh so good
A shot of vodka
Topped up with fresh squeezed orange juice
(Be aware that juice is high sugar so maybe half and half with water/soda water)
1-1.5 shot of Rum (Light or Dark, but not Spiced)
Juice of a lime wedge
top off with coconut water (regular or any flavoured coconut water you prefer)
1-2 shots of tequila (something good and 100 % agave)
Juice and pulp of 1/2 lime (squeeze it like a cavewoman and use a fork to rake out the pulp)
Top off with club soda to taste
This is a light, fruity fizzy, drink, very refreshing and smooth, based on the Mexican Paloma. Unlike normal Palomas, this drink doesn’t use any artificially sweetened soda; it gets its flavour from a small amount of natural juice
1 shot Tequila
Lime juice from 1 wedge
2 shots Grapefruit juice
Top up with Soda water
Frozen Strawberry margarita! (Blender required)
15ml Cointreau (Triple Sec if you want a cheaper version, Grand Marnier if you want to splurge),
4 fresh strawberries, 2/3 cup of frozen strawberries, ( Add ice if using fresh strawberries when blending)
1/2 lime juice.
You can use other berries instead. Serve in a double martini glass. Or drink out of a blender
